Opta is one person in Melbourne

I'm Matthew Byrden. I build the websites, and the machinery that runs behind them.

What Opta builds

Websites for HVAC businesses across Melbourne, and the automations that sit behind them. The form that reaches you the moment it is submitted, the booking that lands in your calendar, the copy you edit from a spreadsheet.

You never pay the second half for a site you didn't approve.

Everything I have built, and everything I am building, is kept in one place: matthewbyrden.com — the projects, the records, the log, in more detail than a business page should carry.

How I got here

I've spent over 1,000 hours building my own software. Apps, tools, products — designed and shipped end to end, on my own, for whoever would use them. That is where I learned what a build actually costs and how much of it never shows up on the screen.

Building a brand around that work is where the real lesson landed. The code was rarely the hard part. The hard part was the front door: what a business looks like in the first few seconds, and what happens in the hour after someone gets in touch. Design and automation. That is where the leverage was sitting the whole time.

So I pointed the same experience at local businesses that don't have it in-house. A trade business can be excellent at the work and still lose the job, because the site looked like a template and the enquiry sat in an inbox overnight. That is a solvable problem. It is the one I solve.

I work from Melbourne, on Melbourne businesses, and I answer my own email.
